A NOVEL DEVELOPMENT
Tross Publishing has branched out in to the field of fiction with the publication of “Sunlight and Shadows; A Novel of Rhodesia” by John McLean, the author of “The British Empire; A Force for Good” and other books.
In its 261 pages this historical saga traces the progress of the Moretons, a fictional pioneer family whose progenitor went to the new land of Rhodesia at the beginning of the twentieth century and set up a large cattle ranch in the east of the country. The book covers three generations of the family with references to some of the important developments in Rhodesia’s short, romantic but ultimately tragic history.
Life in Africa may be dangerous in so many ways but it is never dull. This is brought out in the book which deals with love and deceit, hunting wild animals, game preservation, relations between Briton and Boer and between the white man and the black man, the power of modern terrorism to destroy a peaceful and orderly society, the unfortunate habit of the British Foreign Office in yielding to violence, and the ultimate betrayal of Rhodesians – both blacks and whites – by Margaret Thatcher’s treacherous Conservative government which, by means of deceit, handed this hitherto well-governed country over to the worst gang of jungle killers in all of Africa.
The scene sometimes shifts to other countries – South Africa during the Boer War, Britain during the two world wars and Mozambique, which preceded Zimbabwe on the road to economic ruin as a result of Marxist policies.
The book is both entertaining and informative and is available from: www.trosspublishing.com
